With specially designed courses in both social work and informatics, you’ll learn about the technical aspects of delivering services electronically. You’ll also gain the knowledge and training needed to practice across multiple platforms ethically and with regard to legal and privacy concerns.

Online program on your schedule #

This unique 12 credit hour program is offered totally online with no in-person commitment. Most courses are offered every semester, and admission is open year-round. You’ll be surprised at how flexible the program is—and how quickly you can complete the certificate.

Curriculum #

To earn the Graduate Certificate in e-Social Work Practice, you must complete 12 credit hours.
e-Social Work core courses
9 credit hours required. All are required below:

  1. SWK-D 675 Digital Equity, Digital Citizenship, Data Justice and Practice (3 cr.)
  2. SWK-D 677 Foundations of e-Social Work Practice (3 cr.)
  3. SWK-D 678 Telebehavioral Health Social Work Practice with Individuals (3 cr.)
  4. SWK-D 679 e-Social Work Practice with Groups (3 cr.)

Informatics elective course
3 credit hours required. Choose from the following:

  1. INFO-B 582 Health Information Exchange (3cr.)
  2. INFO-B 583 Security and Privacy Policies and Regulations for Health Care (3cr.)

Admission Requirements #

We are accepting applications year-round. Admission to the Indiana University School of Social Work is competitive. Priority is on a first-come, first-serve basis. All application requirements must be completed and provided to the university by the application deadline.

Who Can Apply

  • Currently practicing social workers who hold a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from a Council on Social Work (CSWE) accredited social work graduate program.
  • Current IU School of Social Work MSW Students
  • IU School of Social Work MSW Applicants

Admission Instructions #

All interested candidates must apply to the certificate program.

  • Select application based upon the academic year you are interested in starting
  • Students who have applied to the MSW program are still required to complete the e-Social Work application to be considered for admissions to the certificate program
  • There is a $70 non-refundable application fee.
  • Type “e-Social Work” using the search field to find the certificate within the “Add Program” tab
