Child Welfare is an exciting, challenging career for those who want to make life better for children and families and keep them safe. In an effort the enhance recruitment and retention efforts of highly qualified family case managers, the Indiana Department of Child Services has partnered with the IU School of Social Work to offer the Child Welfare Scholars Program.

The BSW Child Welfare Scholars Program is a consortium of the public universities in Indiana who offer undergraduate social work education and the Indiana Department of Child Services. Each program provides selected undergraduate social work students with a special tract of courses, learning opportunities and enhanced practicum experiences designed to prepare them for employment as public child welfare workers with the Indiana Department of Child Services. In exchange for the support, students are employed as Family Case Managers in a local DCS office upon graduation.

Students accepted into the Child Welfare Scholars Program receive:

  • Full in-state tuition and fees during their senior year.
  • An additional stipend for two semesters to assist with the cost of additional training expenses.
  • Assistance with job placement upon graduation.
