Voices from the Field: Careers in Community and Organizational Leadership

This is an opportunity for students to hear alumni talk about work experiences related to the community and organizational leadership focus area. In addition, students will be able to ask questions and get pertinent information before making a final decision about their focus area.

Objectives:

  • Opportunity to learn about the COL focus area
  • Exploration of potential career paths with the COL focus area
  • Information regarding the next steps if students are interested in the COL focus area

Presented By:

Meli Barber – Meli is a 2017 MSW graduate of the Indiana University School of Social Work and is currently serving as the Treatment Director for SAFY of Indianapolis, managing the therapeutic foster care program.

Tara Weed– Tara is a May 2022 graduate from the MSW program at IUPUI. She concentrated in Community and Organizational Leadership and is using that knowledge as a Care Coordinator at HANDS in Autism. Tara works for HANDS in Autism’s NDI partnership that works with adolescents who have ASD and behavioral difficulties and their families through team building & facilitation and training in best practices on supports and materials to minimize behaviors and increase support in the community. Additionally, she works with the Directors at HANDS in Autism to create best practices through updating and creating policies for the program and ensuring staff is adequately trained and supported in their roles. Tara is excited to be a part of Voices from the Field to share her journey and passion for organizational social work.

Lauro Zuniga - Lauro is a first-year Master of Social Work student at Indiana University South Bend and is also currently the inaugural Director of Immigrant Services at the Center for Healing and Hope, a non-profit clinic focused on serving individuals without health insurance in Goshen, IN. In this role, he oversees the Natural Helpers Program, manages the clinic’s EC HOPE Immigrant Resource Fund, a fund to which immigrants can apply for financial assistance, and supervises the Goshen Resident ID Program (GRID Program), a program that gives any resident of Goshen, regardless of documented status, a city ID.
