Research Interests
My research focuses on intimate partner violence (IPV): co-occurring IPV and substance use disorder (SUD), effectiveness of interventions with men who use IPV, and community-based hybrid approaches to IPV and SUD.
Teaching Interests
Mental health practice with adults, family violence, practice evaluation, single case evaluation, research methods, and statistics
Practice Experience
Community mental health, substance abuse prevention, Youth Service Bureaus, and independent social work practice focused on child custody evaluations in contested divorces

In order to tackle issues of interpersonal violence (IPV) in Latino families with diverse immigrant statuses, it is first important to understand how the Latino men define IPV. In this narrative study, Latino immigrant men share their perspectives on interpersonal violence (IPV), including their understanding of resources needed to access help. Immigrant Latino men discuss how Latina women could be empowered around issues of domestic violence and interpersonal violence through development of culturally responsive resources.

The current study utilizes formative evaluation data from 294 senior addiction professionals in four states to quantify practitioner IPV screening practices, agency support of IPV screening, and agency engagement with community-based IPV providers. Results suggest that many individual practitioners screen for IPV, but agencies are not systematically supporting IPV screening with policy or engaging IPV providers in sufficient numbers to make robust referrals for IPV services.
