On Monday, March 20, 2023, Indiana University Fort Wayne (IUFW) celebrated the first Mission, Vision, and Purpose (MVP) Luncheon honoring student scholarship recipients and the donors who made the scholarships possible. Students received full tuition for the 2022-2023 academic year, and upon graduation, will enter the healthcare industry.

“We are so proud to introduce Maria Zamudio-Niño and Sheree Matthews-Chattman, the first two recipients selected for the IUFW Bachelor of Social Work Diversity and Equity Scholarship,” said Sandy Noe, director of development at the IU School of Social Work.

“Today’s students in undergraduate programs are not the students of yesteryear, who may have been fully supported by parental figures,” said Jan Ness, director of the IU School of Social Work, Fort Wayne campus. “Today’s students are working adults; many are in the throes of parenting their own children, all while taking on the rigors of undergraduate professional education. We thank our BSW students for their tenacity, resilience, commitment to service, and determination to complete their degrees and launch their careers.”
Ness continues, “Scholarships for our students, and for all students, make significant differences in their journeys and, frequently, make degree completion a reality. We thank our donors for helping our students move their degree completion to fruition. Donors’ commitment to supporting the educational pursuits of tomorrow’s social workers brings forth change, advances social justice for individuals and communities, and is deeply appreciated by our students and our faculty.”
The Scholarship is funded by alumni and friends of the School of Social Work, IUFW. “It was just a year ago that we announced the creation of the first scholarship specifically dedicated to undergraduate social work students studying at Fort Wayne,” said Noe. “Many of you responded and made a gift to the scholarship.  Thank you! It is truly something we can all be proud of, and we recognize this achievement was only possible with the generous support of social work alumni, friends, and community partners.”
